The work's story

Ember Lattice began as a drawing exercise: one continuous black net, drawn by hand without a ruler, dividing the panel into a few hundred cells. The color came after — warm on one side, cool on the other, so the finished glass reads like heat moving through a cold night. Because every cell is translucent, the painting refuses to sit still; it shifts with every hour of the day and throws its palette onto the wall behind it.
How it holds light
Side light picks out the raised lattice as physical relief; daylight through a nearby window turns the cells into stained glass and casts colored light onto the wall. After dark, a single warm spot keeps the ember core burning.

The raised lattice was laid onto the glass first as a single continuous line, then each cell was flooded with translucent enamel — crimson through saffron across the core, cobalt through magenta at the edges. The panel is left unbacked so light passes fully through, and it mounts on standoffs off the wall.
